Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore: Chemists (drug stores), Sultana Bran
We lasted until 4:00pm. Then we slept until about 6:00am. Newtown, or King Street at least, which is the main street, is pretty a pretty neat place. What kind of food do you feel like? Thai, Indian, African, Japanese, or just something from the bakery? You want it, it's here. We ended up having Indian food yesterday and then wandered along King checking out the shops. There's a book store called "Better Read than Dead" and a used bookstore called "Tragically Flawed Books". We popped into the IGA and got some Sultana Bran to have for breakfast and then headed back to our room. I woke up in the morning to bird calls like nothing I've ever heard before. Ching and I got up and ran out onto the balcony to see them. I haven't figured out what they are yet. They look kind of like magpies, but with less white.
Today we went to campus for the Daily arrival information and housing sessions. Then we wandered around campus, aimlessly exploring. The birds here are so much fun. A pigeon flew out of a garbage can right next to us and nearly gave us heart attacks. And we saw two rainbow lorikeets!!! I hurt my neck looking up at them. I must get my hands on a bird book, it's driving me nuts not having any clue what kind of bird I'm looking at. The lorikeets and magpies are nice and obvious, the rest aren't. The trees are neat too. I need to get pictures up, but I can't do that here.
I must vacate the computer, people are here wanting to use it. I'll end with a quote from and email Lianne sent me: "There are 24 usable hours in every day... Unless, of course, you are Christa and Ching and seem to miss out on a day..."
(Original quote, from the movie Empire Records, is just "there are 24 usuable hours in every day)
