Ocean Waves are Fun
I can't believe I wrote about the Botanic Gardens and forgot to mention the little furry (most likely) rodent we saw. It resembled a solid brown guinea pig. The only reason we even spotted it was because the magpies and currawongs were teasing it. It was pretty funny. As if the birds were playing one of those kids' games where there's a contest to see who dares to get the closest to something or other. They were hopping around and every now and then one would dart up and practically stick its beak into the creature's nose. They were tossing bits of debris around too. The rodent was incredibly unphased by all of this, and did a better job of startling the birds than the birds did of bothering it. It just crouched there nibbling and every now and then it would twitch and the magpies would all hop backwards. One of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life.
We never got to Bondi Beach. Apparently the bus that goes there from the Uni doesn't run on Sundays. But we were all ready for the beach so we decided to try Coogee instead. Antonia hadn't even seen the ocean yet. Ching, Vikki and I ran down to the water while Antonia relaxed on the beach and watched our stuff. The tide was coming in so the waves were pretty impressive. After a few minutes screaming when unexpectedly large waves broke on top of us, we were wet enough to just plunge on in. Well, I plunged in. I floated just out before the point where the waves were breaking and watched as Ching was repeatedly knocked over and Vikki ran away before the water could get her. Eventually Ching joined me out on top of the waves away from the breaking. We floated up and down until we started to feel the chill. The sun was starting to sink in the west and it was cooling off. Combine this with a dip in the ocean and we were heading straight for a coffee shop to warm up from the inside out. Vikki and I split a Devonshire tea. Very, very, good scones with jam and cream.
I remembered my tutorial reading when I got home. The one I had a week to read. Good thing I have two hours between classes on Monday, before my tutorial!
